Space Metal

Yup you did read right.

While I like Metal it can become a little boring when you look at the subjects: Fantasy, Orcs, Trolls, Horror, Zombies, Satan... and I am more of a tech person really. So it was really cool to get knowledge of some musician that actually has scifi themes in his songs. I am talking about Arjen Anthony Lucassen who doesn't come from scandinavia as the name maybe implies but from the netherlands. He got my attention when I discovered his project Star One in which he does songs that are themed after his favourite Science Fiction movies/shows.

(Seven Fighters... Navigators... Intergalactic Spacecrusaaaader... *sings along... ehehe... yes. :D )

Today I was actually looking for more of his work and wow... as Ayreon he delivered one very dark album about the rise and decay of the human race. As wikipedia says he composed this album during a depressive phase he went through and it really showed. Nonetheless the music is still great and the lyrics actually tell a story (from the viewpoint of some entities that look at our planet and have to witness mankind going into the dumpster.

I Didnt realize it screamed sex but thats cool.
Arjen released a side project called Guilt Machine in 2009, cant wait to hear it, and also found out hes doing a second Star One..THAT Im super excited about. Its gonna be called Victims of a Modern Age
Regarding the release of another Ayreon album, he said he it could be 10 years before he does another, some people apparently think it sounded way to like his other albums..but I didnt feel that way myself. But he said if is going back to it he will do something different. But as long as he keeps making music im ok with it.

I think he is one of those persons who are terribly creative on several projects and would hate to do the same thing over and over.
